Family Support

Suffering from a mental illness can make you feel helpless. Watching someone you care about suffer with mental illness can make you feel helpless too. Social Supervision

This vital role will be undertaken by one of our experience Social Supervisors in whatever setting is appropriate. We will ensure that prior to accepting someone for Independent Social Supervision we will undertake a detailed assessment with one of our senior Social Supervisors to ascertain suitability and commitment to working with us. This report will be provided in writing prior to our agreement to undertake Social Supervision.

We understand that it is often difficult for home areas to provide such a specialist service and that contracting this out is cost effective and ensures that there is specialist provision. All of our practitioners will have extensive experience of providing this service and will be able to provide all of the statutory functions that the role demands.

We will ensure that all quarterly reports are submitted and communication in a timely fashion and in conjunction with the statutory time frames set by the Ministry of Justice.

Youth Programming

We support youth to be active and participatory members in our community. We believe that youth will be instilled with the confidence and capacity to successfully manage their future and role model for the generations to come through with our support as follow:

• culture and language development,
• preservation and revitalization,
• working with youth to draw on and realize their skills and attributes,
• supporting youth and guiding their aspirations,
• facilitating access and providing safe environments, and
• encouraging youth to take advantage of opportunities.

A diverse range of activities are coordinated weekdays after school, in the evenings, and on Saturdays. During the summer months/school closures, programming is delivered afternoons and evenings, 5-6 days per week. Initiatives include creating Art/Crafts

• participating in Gym Nights and Outdoor sport/recreation activities,
• discovering and engaging in Aboriginal culture traditions,
• learning about nutrition, healthy relationships, personal development and safety,
• engaging in community initiatives and events,
• Volunteering, and Social Nights.

We encourage the Youth to participate in monthly meetings to talk about upcoming opportunities, share interests or issues that they would like more information on, plan activities, community involvement, and volunteering events to engage in.
Programming content is age-appropriate, as are time frames; earlier hours are scheduled for younger age groups and later times are for older age groups. For Program information, call us at (867) 391-1677.

Centralized Crisis Centers

Our Centralized Crisis Center is unique, a place where the communities in the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut could contact for all of their personal needs, if they need someone to talk to, someone is there, if they need someone to text with, a trained individual is there to respond to them and engage the situation. If need be the call could then be relayed and transferred for professional support to a social worker 24 hours a day.

Our other approach is to provide support to other regions of the Kitikmeot, in realizing that the many members of the community have family scattered across the north and that not all members are connected via FaceBook, or that they might not even have the ability or resources to assist and be with their families when an emergency occurs and support it needed. We bridge that gap by using technology, immediately we would reach out to the family if they are in the community we would offer them our resource offices for immediate family and friends to visit. In collaboration with the Hamlet's/Social Support worker in the affected communities we would already have Ipads connected using 4G technology on the ground. This would enable the members in the communities to then reach out to their family in other various communities over the Internet. You might not be able to be beside your family offering support but you could at the very least see them, engage with them and feel one another's support from afar.

Phase 2 of our call center we would adapt the ability for overnight calls such as housing issues, fuel/water issues, health center issues and even health care call redirect services that could potentially wean out many calls for on call services that just may not be needed. This would eliminate some costs associated to paying someone for taking a call that simply was not needed.
